Bay Oaks evolved from the dream of seven professional women in 1947 to provide assisted retirement living in Miami in a gracious home rather than an institutional setting. The board raised funds to construct the home with its distinctive tropical style just a stroll from Biscayne Bay . Today each room is individually decorated with antiques and heritage linens, much like a fine bed and breakfast. With its garden atmosphere and tranquil breezeways, porch rockers and restaurant-style dining, Bay Oaks provides residents with a truly unique living experience.

Bay Oaks is proud of its heritage of more than 50 years as an all-woman directed charitable organization. The concept of providing residents with caring assistance - while banishing institutional conformity in favor of congenial surroundings - makes it a leader in assisted living.

Bay Oaks is a certified 501C3 not-for-profit organization, providing unparalleled quality of care since 1947. To share your Bay Oaks stories, and keep up with all the latest on ours, click here to visit the Bay Oaks Blog.

Bay Oaks offers residents a choice of private or suite-style rooms, depending upon availability. Please contact us for current openings.

Each room is uniquely furnished, but residents are welcome to bring their own touches of home. Rooms average 12 by 18 feet in size, and jacks are in place for those who desire private phone lines and supplemental cable TV. Each room is equipped with cedar closets, individually-controlled heat and air conditioning, and ceiling fans. Bay Oaks is a non-smoking facility.

Room rates at Bay Oaks are all inclusive; there are no extra fees for supervision of self-administered medication or day-to-day activities, for example. Of course, residents who choose to do so may participate in excursions for which they are responsible for their own restaurant bill or event ticket. The average rate at Bay Oaks is approximately $3,500 to $6,000 monthly, depending on accommodations. Bay Oaks requires no annual contracts, providing flexibility as needs change. Please contact us for more information on fees; note that Medicare does not pay for assisted living housing.

Dining

Bay Oaks serves residents three meals daily, all prepared by professional chefs and served restaurant-style in a graciously appointed communal dining room. The menu focuses on food that not only is healthy but tastes delicious. Menus, selected in collaboration with residents, do not repeat for 21 days.

We strive to provide meals that help residents stay healthy and feel better, foods rich in whole grain and complex carbohydrates, with liberal use of fresh produce and herbs, organic products and lean meats. Every effort is made to provide food free of toxins and chemicals from the growing and preservation process. We serve only distilled water.

Note: We are happy to accommodate diabetic and low salt diets.

A typical day's menu:

•Breakfast: Orange juice, hot or cold cereal, scrambled egg, bacon, whole wheat toast with butter and jelly, ½ cup fruit, milk, coffee or tea.

•Lunch (the main meal at Bay Oaks, preferred at mid-day by residents): Roast turkey with dressing, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, apple pie with ice cream, milk, coffee or tea.

•Dinner: Chicken vegetable soup, homemade tuna salad sandwich on whole wheat bread, gingerbread with whipped cream, milk, coffee or tea.
